In Alfred Jarry's Exploits & Opinions of Dr Faustroll, Pataphysician, a Painting Machine ejaculates thirteen paintings onto the walls the Palace of Machines beneath Paris. "Farther! Farther! cries God to the Meek is one, described as below.
The mountain is red, the sun and the sky are red. A finger points toward its peak. The rocks surge upward, the unmistakable summit not in sight. The bodies of those who have not reached it tumble upside down. One falls backward on his hands, dropping his guitar. Another waits with his back to the mountain, near his bottles. One lies down on the road, letting his eyes continue to climb. The finger still points, the sun waits for obedience before it will set.
