Paganini Cut-Up is a kind of cubist collage of Paganini’s Caprice XXIV. Written for Fenella Humphreys, the piece rearranges fragments from each of Paganini’s original variations (and theme), in some cases untouched, and at other times with notes sharpened or flattened, or with rhythms twisted by the stroke of a pen mark to modify the printed notation.
