For a few weeks in the 18th century, French women incorporated boats into their hairdos in honour of the frigate Belle Poule after it damaged a British ship in the Battle of Ushant. This bizarre fashion statement is main focus of the work, with the traditional frigate replaced with an early 20th century steam liner, pulled down by the tentacles of the woman's hair.
